Mexia State School For The Mentally Retarded (Sunshine In My Heart)

Another amazing and rare custom-press by "The Mexia State School for the Mentally Retarded" in Mexia, TX (birthplace of Anna Nicole Smith - and surprisingly, she was not a resident). Anyway, this totally unpretentious and honest effort (hence no Anna Nicole???) is by residents and students at the facility.

I can't say the music is "good" in the traditional sense; and it's actually quite bizarre and surreal. But it also has the refreshing quality of people trying their hardest, not trying to impress anybody, doing something they really love, with honest purpose. "Real People" performances in their truest sense – and in my book, that beats 99% of the stuff you hear on the radio (especially these days).
