Mexia State School Sunshine Singers (The Miracle Album)

Amazing and rare Precision label custom-press by "The Mexia State School for the Mentally Retarded" in Mexia, TX (birthplace of Anna Nicole Smith - and surprisingly, she was not a resident). Anyway, this totally unpretentious and honest effort (hence no Anna Nicole???) is by residents and students at the facility.

Music is Christian-related, but also includes some mondo strange pop ("Dock Of The Bay" is ultra-charming). I can't say the music is "good" in the traditional sense; and it's actually quite bizarre and surreal. But it also has the refreshing quality of people trying their hardest, not trying to impress anybody, doing something they really love, with honest purpose. "Real People" performances in their truest sense – and in my book, that beats 99% of the stuff you hear on the radio (especially these days).

And you gotta love the off-the wall cover - with weird fonts and letter placement on front, and Polaroid photo montage on back.
