LAWMEN QUARTET, THE (Peace In God) - 1
Hmmmmm. Six cops in a quartet. A magnum atop a Bible. I don't think Jesus would like either of these oxymorons...
...but the fine members of this Mississippi "quartet" think otherwise! Indeed, according to the liner notes, the purpose of the album is "to tell the story of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in song, and promote law enforcement wherever possible". A natural combination if there ever was one...
But wait, there's more!: "...the Bible and the magnum have a very special meaning to us. The Bible is the basis for the laws of our land and the magnum is placed there in lieu of [those who] enforce these laws... and we are pledged to the enforcement of these laws...".
Uhh, say what? I guess along with math, history and logic weren't high on the list of their studies, either. But that's OK, they spend the rest of the liner notes explaining why people who used the term PIG "...have no respect for the laws and the rights of others".
Ooookay. This is a civil rights era recording. From Mississippi. Where cops bashed the heads of protesters and enforced segregation.
I guess if they failed math, history and logic, they got straight A's in comedy cuz their knack for irony is funny as Hell!
